The planets can represent basic drives or urge in the subconscious or are energy flow regulators of the 9 dimensions of experience. They express themselves with different qualities through the 12 signs of the zodiac and in the 12 houses.
In astrology, our planets contain all the power of the universe and are very much a part of the net or matrix that is our universe, and they do influence our lives, as you already know - through the menstrual cycles of women, to growing patterns for food and plants. They give you strength, show you meaning, and guide your heart toward love and evolution.
The outer planets—Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto—take 7 years to move through the zodiac, so they tend to affect us on a large scale or generational level. Jupiter and Saturn govern interpersonal issues, while Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto influence big-picture issues and society. Everyone has the same 10 major planets in their astrological birth chart, but they express themselves differently based on the zodiac sign they're located in.
Sun keywords: Identity, conscious self-expression, goals, power.
Just as the Sun is the heart and center of our solar system, in astrology the Sun symbolizes the heart and center of the birth chart. It is the main expression of the individual where we want to shine. The Sun represents the masculine principle, the father, husband, and men in general, our ego, our will, and our conscious nature. The Sun rules our health, vitality, and sense of identity. It describes our goals and journey in this life. The Sun is something you want to become - "enlightened".
The Sun also rules the sign of Leo.
Moon keywords: response, receptivity, instinct, emotions, and moods.
The Moon represents our emotions, feelings and instincts, our inner world. It is passive and receptive. The Moon is the ultimate symbol of the feminine principle and is about moods, memories, the past, and our emotional needs – how you were nurtured, how you want to be nurtured, and how you nurture others. Its action fluctuates and changes. The Moon is where we look for support and comfort and our deep connection to family roots. It is how we see ourselves. The moon is like the little sister of mother earth.
The Moon also rules the sign of Cancer.
Mercury keywords: communication – the written and spoken word, the mind, intellect, logic.
Mercury in the birth chart is about the way we think and communicate. Mercury was the Messenger of the Gods, in ancient times, and was known for speed and dexterity. Mercury is neither masculine or feminine. Mercury represents our intellectual and communicative processes. It is about how we gather information, how we think, speak, write and learn, and how we pass it on to others. Mercury rules the rational mind; its quality is logic only (no emotion/feeling). It also rules teaching, schools, children, language, humor, opinions, manual skills, travel, siblings, and our immediate environment and neighbors. Where Mercury is placed in the chart shows where and how you communicate.
Mercury also rules the signs of Gemini and Virgo.
Earth's keywords: home, Gaia, mother, the blue pearl
The Earth represents your physical location and dharma, or sense of purpose. It's the mirror image of the sun, in the same degree but the opposite sign. If your sun sign is in Aquarius, your Earth sign is in Leo, and vice versa. The zodiac signs are based on our view of the constellations from Earth.
From our perspective on Earth, it looks like the sun passes in front of different constellations. This is an illusion due to the way the Earth orbits the sun.[1] Your zodiac sign (also called a star or sun sign) is determined by which constellation the sun appears to be in at the time you were born.[2]
Earth produces energy and life on the planet.
Venus keywords: love, attraction, beauty, harmony, money, quality.
Venus is known as the planet of love and beauty. It is our ability to love and be loved, how we love and value ourselves. Venus is a very powerful planet that represents love and luxury. The idea is that if you align the body and spine the body will heal itself. Before we can heal others, we need to heal ourselves. Before we can health earth we must heal ourselves. Chiron is connected with health. Chiron has no rulership but is linked to Virgo through practical healing and Sagittarius the teacher. Chiron has an erratic, elliptical cycle of 49-51 years around the Sun, and is represented in the body by the right side of the leg - thigh down to the foot. The Chiron dilemma is about rejection and abandonment, sexual issues and deceit, betrayal, accepting something undeserved, unfair, or misjudged, finding our way out of the dilemma - no one can do it for us, sacrifice and giving up something
